Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun is the Executive Director of PARI. He is also an associate professor and the ex-chairman of the Department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr Mamun is the General Secretary of the South Asian Association of Japanese Studies (JSASA). He did his PhD in International Development Cooperation and Postgraduate Certificate (Research Methods) from the University of Huddersfield, the UK. Dr Mamun is an MBA and he completed a Certificate in Law from the University of Northumbria, the UK. His areas of specialisation are aid and development effectiveness, international development cooperation, FDI, effectiveness of Japanese ODA in Bangladesh, and Japanese society and culture. He has years of professional experience in working with international entities such as USAID, UNDP, UNCDF, JICA, JETRO and Mitsubishi Corporation, and government and domestic organisations such as ERD, NAPD, Cabinet Division, BRAC, ASA and Asiatic Society for research, training report preparation and policy evaluation. Dr Mamun is the co-author of three books and he published a number of research articles in national and international journals.

Masudur Rahaman obtained his undergraduate degree in computer science from IIT and his master’s in Japanese Studies from the University of Dhaka. He has been working in the field of information technology for more than 14 years, including five years in Japan. He has held the role of technical lead in well-known national and international organisations such as icddr,b, CRP and Dnet. Currently, Mr Rahaman is chairing his own company, QA Harbor Ltd, alongside serving Kazuko Bhuiyan Trust as manager and an ILO-based entrepreneurship development programme, C-BED, as country director. Mr Rahaman has, since 2015, worked on Japanese language and culture. He published a language book named ‘Useful Japanese Language’ and translated into Bangla the life story of Mr Sakichi Toyoda (founder of Toyota Corporation), which was launched at the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka in February 2023. Mr Rahaman has been involved with due diligence in Japanese kaizen, 5S, SWOT analysis, project management, leadership, SQA and community-based entrepreneurship development for SMEs.

M Aminul Islam, having honours and master’s degrees in English language and literature from Dhaka University, brings with him more than 19 long years of relevant experience, expertise and intellectual prowess as a mass media professional and a communicator. He has worked with the leading local English broadsheets, including The Daily Star and Daily Sun, and is currently serving The Financial Express as a senior news consultant. In addition to doing journalism with full passion and professionalism, Mr Aminul has a proven track record of working with the likes of the Department of Japanese Studies, Bangladesh Television, Media Source Limited, Plan International Bangladesh and The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) as an individual consultant, bilingual translator, text editor, content writer or a writer of contemporary socio-economic issues.
