Current Situation, Challenges and Way forward of Japanese Language Education in Bangladesh: Exchange of Views with Foreign Japanese Language Teachers

The Pan-Asia Research Institute (PARI), a Japan-based think tank, hosted a webinar on ‘Current Situation, Challenges and Way Forward of Japanese Language Education in Bangladesh: Exchange of Views with Foreign Japanese Language Teachers’ at 2:00 pm yesterday(Saturday/October 28).

This webinar aimed at contributing to the effective teaching and learning of Japanese language in Bangladesh as Japanese language learning could help ensure respectful employment, thanks to the growing openness of the Japanese labour market and increasing Japanese companies and projects in Bangladesh.

Ken Komine, head of Public Relations and Culture at the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka, was present as the guest of honour during the webinar where PARI director Okabayasi Kuniaki presented a keynote paper.

Mr Komine said the Japanese embassy would be involved with Japanese language schools and the PARI in improving Japanese language education through training local Japanese language teachers.

Prof Dr Gita A Keeni, head of the Department of Japanese at Visva Bharati University, Asst Prof Dr Wichaya Yoshida of the Department of Thai and Oriental Languages (Japanese) at Mahasarakham University, Mayu Takada, Japanese language specialist of Shanghai University, and Uzawa Takeo of Miyazaki University, were the panellists of the webinar.

PARI executive director Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun gave an address of welcome and PARI vice-president Tomoko Uchiyama a vote of thanks with PARI president Yuji Ando in the chair.

In his speech, Dr Mamun said the PARI would organise the first-ever National Japanese Language Summit in March 2024 as part of its endeavour to assist effective Japanese language teaching and learning in Bangladesh.
